New Broken China Pieces

I finally finished a few pieces of broken china pendants. These came from a set of cups and saucers I was able to purchase at an antique store earlier this summer.

The second set of pendants I completed came from a new set of china I found yesterday. I got a few other fun pieces of vintage jewelry that I’ll be altering/adding to and listing in the next few days.

Pressed Flowers & Vintage Text

Pressed flowers, vintage text and layers form the basis of these dainty pendants which measure approximately .75×1.5″ inside the frame.  Made with a sprig of dried flora in a rich purple hue layered atop French text torn from an old book, naturally aged with subtle cream tones.  The back is layered with text printed on plain white cardstock for a graceful and romantic effect.

A Stitch in Time

tatteredRipped and tattered it was left in a pile of discarded fabrics & quilts at a local antique shoppe.  What could you do with it?  As a quilt top it was beyond repair.  A hole here a hole there.  Needlework stitches had fallen out.  It was in sad shape indeed.  And that’s why we chose it.

Every quilt is  a creation lovingly and painstakingly created.  One can only imagine the hopes of dreams of the quilter who sat patiently stitching each flower and leaf.  The piece was well worn.  Used with joy I’m sure.  However, as the point came where it was no longer to be used for its original intent it became the perfect piece for a re-birth.

Introducing Our Vintage Needlework Collection…

Each piece is made from an authentic vintage fabric.  This series is from a vintage hand stitched quilt top purchased at a local antique shop.  Sizes range for 3/4×1″ to 1.5×1.5″ and 1×3″.

The opposite side shows the complete stitch pattern with nothing to block it.  The back (shown) has a simple ivory cardstock label cut with decorative scissors and layered gracefully at various points over the fabric.

Mini Black & Cream Initials

We’ve created  a new classic beauty for you.  About the size of perhaps a 12mm bead not including the bail (hanger thingy).  This first set is in the classic and beautiful look of black and white (actually an ivory/cream color).  The front is a lower case letter in the “Times” style font.  The back is a gorgeous floral pattern reminiscent of grandma’s vintage fabrics.  The coloring front to back matches… a cream front for cream back, black front with black back.  And these pieces are interchangeable as their contrasting colors are coordinated exactly.

They’ll make a gorgeous bracelet with chunk chain.  And they can also be used as a simple pendant or with a layer of several different size pendants.  We’re in the process of making a slightly larger size.

Let them eat Cake

Inside the tiny soldered frame there is a small collage print of Marie Antoinette asking a simple question “cake?”.

As the story goes… upon hearing the French people had no bread to eat Marie Antoinette, the lavishly dressed Queen of France, proclaimed “let them eat cake”.

While the quote did not originate with her, French Revolutionist used the excessive spending and extravagant lifestyle of her youth to convince the people that Antoinette the woman/mother was anti-France.  Tried for treason she was found guilty and executed by beheading.

But to those who knew her…  Marie was a gracious and giving woman.  Her generosity included adopting children, building homes for those in need, supporting the cause of the unwed mother, widow and blind.  As a mother she doted over her children getting personally involved in their education, which was uncommon.

The choker is a mixture of different metals, pearls & wire.  It’s finished with a faux vintage rose drop.  And closes with an ornate lobster clasp.

The choker style was used to represent her beheading.  The rose “as she was often seen” representing her fall from grace.  The piece created with pearls, silver and gold colors realizes the beauty that is Marie Antoinette.

Vintage Text a New Classic

Inspired with the simplicity and classic look of black & white we created these tiny charms from authentic vintage texts and papers.

Just about 3/4″ by 1″ wide inside the frame, each print is cut from a vintage book, which had fallen apart long ago.  Atop each is a phrase strip printed on a cream colored cardstock, cut with decorative scissors and softly layered for an elegantly subtle affect.
