What’s Twitter?

Twitter is almost like a huge mini-blog/chat room experience.  You’re welcome to join the service for free and begin following the posts of writers who “tweet”/comment on subjects you’re interested in.  One of the best ways to find people to follow is to do a search for a topic that interests you.  You’ll receive a bunch of recent comments with that topic listed and a link to the author who posted it.  You can then read their mini/micro–blog page to determine if they’re someone you’d want to “follow”/receive constant updates from.As you begin to follow individual authors they’ll often follow you back.  They’ll receive your updates as you receive theirs.

On the side of each “tweet” you have an option to directly reply back to the author.  And this is where the “chat” room experience comes in.  You can often find yourself contributing directly in conversations to help or be helped.  There are other communication options available in twitter.  But overall I’d say Twitter is a great social networking site for finding “new” people from around the globe who are interested in chatting about the same topics you’re interested in.  This is what makes it much different from Facebook.

Why follow me on Twitter?

If you like creative handmade arts and crafts ventures then you may find my tweets interesting.  I tend to tweet about the new products I’ve listed, the sales & events I’m having, my latest blog posts.  I also introduce new and amazing artists, connect suppliers with those needing supplies, and overall try to be helpful and encouraging to the artists and handcraft entrepreneurs.  If you’re a bird of that feather- Come follow me.

Will I follow you back?

Probably… but I tend to follow only those people who are artists or handcraft entrepreneurs.  I don’t tend to follow business opportunity sellers, or spiritual gurus.  I do check profiles & tweets before I follow.  My main goal is “not to be spammed with  stuff I’m not interested in”.  BTW-  if you like the artists and handcraft entrepreneur, if you’re looking for amazing & not mass produced gifts and such topics you can find a great list of author’s to follow by reviewing my “following” list.

If you join do you have to Tweet everyday?

not at all.  If you just want to stay up to date on what’s going on then feel free to follow those whose “tweets” interest you and leave it at that.  Just remember with the “reply” back button you’re always welcome to chat or post a question to any of the “tweets” you receive.

time to play…Digital Collage & Scrapbooking

Enhancing digital images has always been one of my fave art experiments, starting when my dad brought home his 1st digital camera with free photo editing software.  The software designed to help businesses set up e-banners and web pages was my introduction to the power of digital creativity.  Little did I know, what I was doing would become an arts & crafts phenomenon.

the J’adore Kit

J’adore is French for “I adore”

jadore-kit

The J’adore kit is the 1st set of our new Digital Goods series.  Inspired by the trend of scrapbooking this kit will offer you endless possibilities to personalize and handcraft unique heartfelt treasures.

It began with the frame scanned from a vintage card & surrounded with elements of vintage beauty… from rhinestone buttons, earrings and other jewelry bits such as lovely pearl strands.   It’s topped off with some word art, digital tags and ephemera bits to add flare.

The world of digital collage and scrapbooking is a modern trend and a fascinating and cleverly creative place.  With each kit we create we desire to focus our attention on a unique digital representation of antique and vintage inspired offerings.   We hope you’ll come along and play…

You may purchase the kit in our Shoppe

10 Amazing Artists To Meet & Follow on Twitter

Every Friday Twitter Followers are invited to meet a selection of Twitter Users they have not yet connected with. Known as #FF, #FollowFriday and in the Artist Community #FollowArt. The suggestions are usually made within the 140 character message length Twitter allows and resemble “#FF @tweeple1 @tweeple2 @tweeple3″ (with tweeple being substituted with an actual twitter profile name).

I wanted not only to share the recommendation but show you some of the wonderful artist creations I’ve enjoyed finding through the Twitter Connections I’ve made.

If you follow me at twitter you’ll receive both this video and the usual @messages.

My Dolly and Me-Part 1

I recently purchased the book “Taking Flight”

61AVdNXtCAL._SL160_

and was inspired by several art pieces.  Within the pages are gorgeous step by step instruction to paint reflective self-portraits.   Throughout you’ll find thought provoking prompts to help you escape fears into your true artistic self.  I was wowed by the various ways to draw/paint/create female faces.  And while each artist held her own style the portraits looked as though they were family.  They each had almost the same modern folk artsy feel.  Each contributing artists used a different medium to create her masterpiece.  Some used acrylics, others oils, some  paintbrushes, some pens and others their fingers, etc.

I made my first attempt at a human face on a note card size paper.  The result.

Then I decided to attempt to make the same style/look in 3-D.  Here is what I’ve come to so far…

Of course they both need quite a bit more work to finish them up.  But the process has been so enjoyable I wanted to share where I was so far.

Antique Stores to Visit in Southern NH

Did you know there are more antiques and collectibles stores per square mile in the state of New Hampshire than in any other state?  Along with a plethora of consignment stores a visit to New Hampshire is a wonderful treasure hunting adventure.

A few minutes past the Massachusettes border as you drive from Nashua into Amherst NH you’ll find yourself on a grand journey across what is part of “the Antiques Trail”.

Usually we (my mom & I) start at the 101-A Antique & Collectible’s Center located right off 101A just over the border of Merrimack, NH going into Amherst.

ce001b-1It’s a two story establishment with rows and rows of gorgeous vintage and antique booths at the main floor and loads of gorgeous furniture etc. downstairs.

The next stop is another deceptively small shoppe called “This Olde Stuff.

thisoldestuff

It looks small from the street but This Olde Stuff is a good size Antiques Mall.  Parking and the entrance is to the rear of the building where you’ll find a whole other “wing’ of available goodies.  The dealers here tend to keep the stock fresh so that you’ll always find a unique little treasure tucked within the loads of goodies.  It’s a “crawl around” store so wear comfortable clothing cause you’ll definitely want to get on the ground to pull things tucked out of bottom shelves.  We found an entire replacement set of dishes that way.  It’s also a “vintage jewelry” mecca with some of the most gorgeous pieces handsomely displayed.  The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly and the hunting is always fantastic!

Back on the highway we’ll take the next right at the lights and tucked around the corner is a yellow building with a chinese food restaurant, a consignment shop and at the very end a cute little co-operative called “Martha Mae’s”

marthamaes

Martha Mae’s is on the right of 2nd Chance Consignment.  It’s more like a little vintage consignment store with antique-y things in it.  It’s a tiny shoppe with loads of tiny treasures.  There are only a few booths, which are not really booths but small closets.  You’ll find some great deals here.  As you can see from the photo the store is jam packed to overflowing.

Further down the road, past the Wal-Mart, the underpass, the Shaw’s shopping plaza & right before the Milford Oval is another gorgeous 2 1/2 story shop called Golden Opportunities.  If you’re driving from Amherst into Milford it’s on the right across the street from a run down shopping plaza.

The old home feel is quaint.  You’ll enter into the foyer and walk past a small section of booths with jewelry.  Up a small flight of stairs you’ll find a gorgeous selection of furniture pieces.  Towards the back you’ll find the entrance to the basement where you locate the stash of goodies perfect for fix ups and re-purposing.

je001-1

And I saved the best for last. The Antiques at the Mayfair is a gorgeous 2 story multi room shoppe with hundreds of awesome finds on any given day.  Unlike the others it’s not located on 101A.  Rather you have to back up a little and get onto Rte 101 going towards Bedford/Manchester.  There are very few businesses on Rte 101.  Instead it’s fairly scenic with loads of trees and old farm houses.  A restaurant here and there.  More trees, more trees, and more trees.  Then out of nowhere a little plaza emerges on the left side of the street.  It’s facade looks like you driven into Switzerland.  There are several buildings/cottages with the very last one primarily the Antiques at the Mayfair store.  (Right next door is Enchanted Lace.)

salzburg_med

The prices are excellent here and if you see anything you like snap it up right away.  I saw a vintage typewriter for $25 and decided to hold off on picking it up right away.  It was gone before I finished perusing the store.  I should have known.

Of all the stores this is by far the most fun.  The entrance is actually on the top floor in the center of the building.  If it’s your first time the basement can be confusing as rooms open up into closets that open up into rooms that open into other rooms and don’t forget to check out the stuff stashed beneath the stairs.

When you get to Antiques at the Mayfair ask one of the members behind the counter for the map to the Antiques Trail. There are a lot of other shops along 101A that we haven’t been to yet so I didn’t mention them here. If you’re up to it you can visit them on your return trip.

So if you’re up for something to do this weekend take a trip along “the Antiques Trail” on Saturday.  Then on Sunday visit the Hollis Flea Market.  Happy Shopping!
