My Dolly and Me-Part 1

I recently purchased the book “Taking Flight”

and was inspired by several art pieces.  Within the pages are gorgeous step by step instruction to paint reflective self-portraits.   Throughout you’ll find thought provoking prompts to help you escape fears into your true artistic self.  I was wowed by the various ways to draw/paint/create female faces.  And while each artist held her own style the portraits looked as though they were family.  They each had almost the same modern folk artsy feel.  Each contributing artists used a different medium to create her masterpiece.  Some used acrylics, others oils, some  paintbrushes, some pens and others their fingers, etc.

I made my first attempt at a human face on a note card size paper.  The result.

Then I decided to attempt to make the same style/look in 3-D.  Here is what I’ve come to so far…

Of course they both need quite a bit more work to finish them up.  But the process has been so enjoyable I wanted to share where I was so far.

Marie… is here

Wow it’s been a week since my last post.  And it wasn’t a fun one either.  I haven’t been so sick in nearly 20 years.  Here’s to the next 30-50 cold & flu free.

The one good thing that did happen during that time was…

my copy of Somerset Studio’s Marie magazine arrived.  And there it was… my lovely choker necklace.  The photographer and model really did a good job making the piece stand out.  I was beyond pleased.  And Kudos to Amanda Crabtree who did an exceptional job of taking my long-winded babble and making a concise article for you to enjoy.   The additional artwork within the pages of the magazine are also simply stunning.  I’m definitely inspired to make more lavish Marie pieces in the near future.

I’ve already made a few pair of earrings to add to the Marie Antoinette Jewelry portion of the NanasGiftNook.com Shoppe site.  You can expect them to appear over the weekend.

Remember you can pick up your copy of Marie at Barnes & Nobles, most craft stores such as Michael’s & ACMoore and other booksellers on April 1st.
